Ք. ա. IX դարի կեսերին Հայկական լեռնաշխարհի կենտրոնական և հյուսիսային շրջաններում իշխում էր Հայկազունիների ավագ ճյուղի ներկայացուցիչ Արամը: Ըստ Խորենացու՝ Հայկազունիների ավագ ճյուղի ներկայացուցիչ Սկայորդին իշխանություն է ստեղծում Հայաստանի հարավ-արևմուտքում: Ք. ա. VII դարի երկրորդ կեսին Սյակորդու որդի Պարույրի գլխավորությամբ հզորանում էր այդ իշխանությունը: Պարույրը տիրում քր Վանա լճից Եփրատ ընկած ողջ տարածքին: Նա դաշինք կնքեց Մարաստանի և Բաբելոնի հետ՝ ընդդեմ Ասորեստանի: Ք. ա. 612 թ. դաշնակիցների զորքերտ գրավեցին Ասորեստանի մայրքաղաքա Նինվեն: Դրան մասնակցելու համար պարույր Հայկազունին թագադրվեց Մարաստանի արքայի կողմից և ճանաչվեց Հայաստանի թագավոր:
